Pre-OWL

Lesson:

Greetings!

Welcome to the Pre-OWL Introduction. You might be wondering why this lesson is posted before the term even starts... Well it's simply because with the number of weeks that we have and the number of OWL preparation lessons that we have, this necessary lesson wouldn't fit in the time allotted. So lets get right down to business.

Purpose

The sole purpose of this course is to properly prepare our students for the OWL examinations that are administered by the Ministry of Magic during the last week of each term. This course is considered 1 course, however, unlike all other courses at Hogwarts Online, you can earn 1 quill for each OWL that you take and pass. That means that at the completion of this preparation course you have the possibility of earning up to eleven quills!

Structure

This course and the N.E.W.T. course is structured to best prepare the students for the exams by giving them a thorough review of the information that will be covered on the examination, yet not saturate you with unnecessary information or work. Throughout the term you will have twelve lessons. One for each of the forms of magic that will be tested with O.W.L.s. I have gathered the most experienced professors at Hogwarts to instruct these lesson. These professors not only teach their particular subject term after term, they are also widely respected by the magical community as being one of the best in the field. The lessons include only the important information that will appear on the examination.

Requirements

Students are required to take and pass at least three lesson/assignments and three corresponding exams in order to move up to their sixth year. This means that the student will receive only one quill for this course. Students are able to choose the lesson/exams that they wish to take, but in order to take the N.E.W.T. you must take the O.W.L. of that subject area.

Lessons

Throughout the term, there will be eleven lesson (not including this one) that will review the respective subject matter. Currently the ministry offers OWL examinations in the following subjects: Ancient Runes, Astronomy, Arithmancy, Care of Magical Creatures, Charms, Defense Against the Dark Arts, Divinations, Herbology, History of Magic, Potions, and Transfiguration. The lessons are fairly simple and should take only a few minutes to read over.

Exams

Each OWL will have it's own exam. You will have about a month to read the information, ask questions of the appropriate professor, and then to complete the Exam and hand it in to either Professor Lash or Professor Peevison, depending on the test you took. OWL answers should ONLY be sent to either Professor Lash or Professor Peevison . There will be no make-ups allowed at all because this course moves at such a fast pace. OWL examinations will include two parts, a theory part and a practical part. The lessons will instruct the students on possible theory questions and possible practical assessments that will be on the examination.

Grading

The final grade will be made up of two things: 50% Theory, 50% Practical. Theory is 50% of the exam and the Practical is the other 50%. You can only earn one quill from this course. You will receive one award per examination that you take.
